ICC confirmation of charges vs Rody Duterte, case records sent to Presidency
The International Criminal Court (ICC) Registry has transmitted to the ICC Presidency the decision confirming the charges against former President Rodrigo Duterte, along with other case records.
In a four-page document dated April 24, the Registry transmitted the following:
- Annex 1: Index of all filings registered in the case, including the decision;
- Annex 2: Index of all transcripts of hearings in the case; and
- Annex 3: Index of all evidentiary material in the JEM-Nuix system uploaded in the case.
Last week, the ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I confirmed the charges of crimes against humanity against Duterte and ordered him to stand trial.
According to the ICC, the Presidency will constitute a Trial Chamber for the next phase of proceedings.
It will be composed of three judges not previously involved in the Pre-Trial Chamber.
Once constituted, the Trial Chamber will hold conferences, consult with the parties, set the date for the start of trial, and adopt the necessary procedures.
The ICC said the Trial Chamber will also rule on preliminary issues, including the timing and manner of disclosure of evidence.—MCG, GMA News
