LTFRB eyeing to finish distributing fuel subsidy to transport sector by next week

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Monday turned over P447,000 in fuel subsidies to 14 public utility bus operators in the Ilocos Region in a bid to expedite the distribution of aid for the transport sector and finish it by next week.

In a statement, the LTFRB said this amount will be distributed to bus drivers across the region.

LTFRB chair Vigor Mendoza II personally handed over the funds to the bus operators in a meeting on Monday.

In the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Mendoza met with transport leaders from jeepney, bus, taxi and transport network vehicle service (TNVS) groups.

He explained how the P5,000 will be distributed for remaining beneficiaries and how the P10 per liter fuel subsidy discount will be implemented.

“We intend to finish the distribution of the fuel subsidy by next week. That is why we are implementing measures to expedite the distribution process,” Mendoza said.

The new measure includes the issuance of checks to transport service entities for them to take charge in distributing them to their respective members.

This was first implemented in Mimaropa and was employed as a strategy in the Ilocos Region.

“We are exhausting all measures for fast downloading of funds to the intended beneficiaries. That’s why we are expressing gratitude to the transport groups and transport service entities for their cooperation,” Mendoza said.

“Be rest assured that finishing the distribution of the fuel subsidy will always be the top priority. This is the reason why I am now conducting regional visits to supervise the fast distribution,” he added. — JMA, GMA News
