Japan reports 'meaningful progress' in addressing Navotas Landfill Fire

The Embassy of Japan on Thursday announced that their team’s assessment of the Navotas Landfill fire has been completed.

In a statement, the Japan Disaster Relief (JDR) Expert Team said that they were done with their assessments and have submitted their findings to Philippine authorities.

“The JDR Team assessed that meaningful progress has been made in addressing the situation. The Team’s work is intended to complement the ongoing efforts of the Philippines,” read the statement.

Japan has been aiding in managing the Navotas sanitary landfill fire by providing technical support.

Authorities from Japan joined representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in a recent inspection of the affected area.

DENR said that they intend to ramp up their efforts to contain the fire, which is still ongoing. —VAL, GMA News
