PNP on full alert for Labor Day 2026 activities

The Philippine National Police (PNP) has placed all of its offices and units nationwide under full alert status starting Thursday to ensure the safety and security of Labor Day activities.

At a press briefing, PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said the full alert status took effect at 12:01 a.m. Thursday and will last until 12:01 a.m. Saturday.

"Ang deployment po natin ay mananatiling 106,000 plus (Our deployment will remain at over 106,000 plus personnel)," he said.

Under full alert status, all units and personnel are directed to maintain maximum readiness to perform their duties.

The PNP also outlined the effects of the full alert status, which include suspending personnel leaves, maximizing police force deployment, and enhancing police visibility in key areas.

Support forces will also be activated and mandatory coordination among units is required to ensure effective operations.

No threats have been monitored so far in connection with the observance of Labor Day.

The PNP earlier said that in Metro Manila, several groups applied for permits to hold rallies in key areas, including near the United States Embassy in Manila as well as in the University of the Philippines Diliman, Welcome Rotonda, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Quezon City.

However, police noted that permits for these activities were still pending approval.

Tuaño said the PNP will remain non-partisan and apolitical, while ensuring the safety of protesters and the general public.

Meanwhile, the Police Regional Office 7 (PRO 7) in Central Visayas will remain under full alert for a longer period, until 11:59 p.m. on May 10, in connection with activities for the Philippines' hosting of the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Leaders' Summit. — VDV, GMA News
