LTO summons driver of black van for hit-and-run of traffic enforcer
The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver of a black van involved in the viral hit-and-run of a traffic enforcer.
In a statement, the LTO cited a video uploaded on Facebook which showed the van hitting the enforcer’s motorcycle, causing the enforcer to fall off.
The van allegedly sped away from the scene.
The LTO issued a show cause order (SCO) against the driver and the registered owner of the black van, compelling them to appear before the LTO’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on May 7 at 3 p.m.
The respondents were told to submit a sworn explanation on why the driver should not be liable for reckless driving and for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
The driver was also ordered to surrender his or her driver’s license, which shall be preventively suspended for 90 days.
The black van shall be also placed under an LTO alarm.
LTO chief and Transportation Assistant Secretary Markus Lacanilao said the agency will not condone such violations of traffic laws.
“Ang ganitong klase ng iresponsableng pagmamaneho ay walang puwang sa ating mga kalsada. Hindi lamang ito simpleng paglabag – ito ay malinaw na paglalagay sa panganib ng buhay ng kapwa motorista at ng ating mga traffic enforcer,” Lacanilao said.
(This kind of irresponsible driving has no space on our streets. This is not just a violation – this is clearly endangering the life of another motorist and our traffic enforcers.)
“Sisiguraduhin ng LTO na mananagot ang sinumang lalabag sa batas.” Lacanilao added,
(The LTO shall see to it that those who violate the law will be held to account.)
The agency urged the public to continue reporting such incidents to ensure road safety and orderliness. — JMA, GMA News
