Marcos: Gov't working on opening thoroughfares amid Mayon unrest
President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said Monday the government is working to open all thoroughfares to provide assistance for those affected by Mayon Volcano’s unrest.
“We are working on opening all the thoroughfares para lahat ng kailangang pumasok ay makapasok (so that anyone who needs to enter may enter). Lahat ng kailangang lumabas ay makalabas (those who need to go out may go out),” Marcos told reporters.
“I think we will be able to say that the thoroughfares will be open today huwag lang magbuga ulit (provided that it won’t spew ashes anew),” he added.
To recall, Marcos directed the rapid deployment of assistance for communities affected by the ashfall due to the activities of Mayon Volcano, particularly in Guinobatan and Camalig, Albay.
Over 300,000 food and non-food items have been prepositioned in the Bicol Region, according to the Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Marcos said he was able to talk to the governor of Albay, noting that all needs have been provided.
“We are able to minimize the effects of the ashfall that is going into certain populated areas,” Marcos said.
