PNP: 104 arrested for cyber offenses in April, 209 cases filed
The Philippine National Police’s (PNP) Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) arrested 104 individuals in April for various online offenses.
In a statement, the PNP said these persons were apprehended through entrapment operations and the service of warrants.
The ACG also referred 209 cybercrime cases for filing and carried out 108 cyber warrants, conducted 2,196 cyber patrol activities, and completed 77 digital forensic examinations.
These operations led to the rescue of 19 victims and the conviction of nine offenders.
PNP chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. stressed the importance of staying ahead of evolving cyber threats.
“Sa panahon ngayon na halos lahat ay konektado na online, mas pinalalakas natin ang ating kakayahan para protektahan ang publiko laban sa mga krimeng nangyayari sa digital space. Hindi tayo titigil sa paghabol sa mga lumalabag sa batas,” he said.
(In these times when almost everyone is online, we beefed up our capabilities to protect the public against crimes happening in the digital space. We will not stop in running after those who violate the law.)
“We remain committed to building a secure and trustworthy online environment. Our message is clear – those who exploit technology to harm others will be held accountable, while we continue to safeguard victims and support their path to justice,” Nartatez said.
The PNP chief also assured the public that the police force will further enhance its cyber capabilities, strengthen coordination with partner agencies, and sustain proactive operations to address emerging threats in the digital landscape. — JMA, GMA News
