Sara Duterte challenges Romualdez, Co to ‘tell the truth’ on flood control issue

Vice President Sara Duterte challenged former House speaker Martin Romualdez and former lawmaker Zaldy Co to “tell the truth” regarding allegations surrounding controversial flood control projects.

“Kung totoo talaga na interesado si Zaldy Co at si Martin Romualdez sa hustisya, hindi lang para sa kanila sarili, kundi para na sa taong bayan at sa Pilipinas, dapat sabihin nila kung ano totoo," said Duterte as she faced supporters and overseas Filipinos in The Hague, Netherlands.

(If Zaldy Co and Martin Romualdez are truly interested in justice — not just for themselves but for the people and the country, they should tell the truth.)

“Iba naman ang sinasabi ni Martin Romualdez at ni Zaldy Co," she also said.

Romualdez and Co have been tagged in alleged anomalous flood control projects. Both have denied the accusations.

GMA News Online has also reached out to the camps of Romualdez and Co for comments on Duterte's statements but they have yet to reply as of posting time.

Impeachment, fake news

Duterte, meanwhile, shrugged off claims of some House lawmakers that there are 200 of their members who are expected to vote to impeach her.

“Madami ang pumipera gamit ang pangalan ko (Many people are making money using my name),” Duterte said.

House justice committee chairperson and Batangas Second District Rep. Gerville Luistro has previously denied that some of the panel's members were pressured to vote in favor of the impeachment.

Duterte also made a remark on the recent arrests of some social media personalities for allegedly spreading fake news.

“Masyadong sensitive ang mga ganyan na mga tao na apektado sa opinyon ng ordinaryong mamamayan, sensitive, insecure and takot," she said.

(People who are affected by the opinions of ordinary citizens are too sensitive, insecure, and afraid),” Duterte said.
