Matibag says Bato Dela Rosa pushed NBI agents before running away
National Bureau of Investigation director Melvin Matibag said Sen. Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa shoved two female agents who were about to serve him the International Criminal Court's warrant of arrest before running away from them.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Matibag also said there was no tackling that happened, as Dela Rosa said on Monday. He said the NBI agents could not have hurt Dela Rosa because they were three meters away.
"Nu'ng nalaman niya na ise-serve na sa kanya ang (warrant), tinulak na niya ang dalawang agent kaya siya nakatakbo," Matibag said.
(When he learned that the warrant was about to be served, he pushed the two agents and ran away.)
"Hindi totoo yung sinabi niya na ni-wrestling siya. Walang ganu'n. Kaya siya nasugatan... nadapa siya eh," he added.
(The claim that he was wrestled is false. There's nothing like that. The reason he had a cut... was because he fell.)
"Literally, he’s evading arrest," Matibag said.
GMA News is trying to get a comment from Dela Rosa regarding Matibag's remarks.
Dela Rosa has since changed his story and said he suffered the cut when he fell.
Matibag said the NBI received the ICC warrant of arrest on Monday morning, and the agency coordinated with the Senate, which at that time was still under the leadership of the erstwhile Senate President, Sen. Vicente Sotto III.
He also said the NBI received intelligence information that Dela Rosa was attending the Senate session on Monday.
Matibag said there were 40 NBI personnel inside and outside the Senate premises for the arrest. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/NB, GMA News
