Alan Cayetano on Senate shootings: Marcos, Defense chief Teodoro said it wasn't gov't
President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro have called to say that government forces were not involved in the shootings heard in the Senate while it was on lockdown, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano said on Wednesday night.
In a Facebook live, Cayetano said the top officials assured an independent investigation of the incident that happened amid reports that Sen. Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa was to be arrested.
The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Dela Rosa in connection with the crimes against humanity charges against former President Rodrigo Duterte.
Dela Rosa has been found to be a co-conspirator in the killings of drug suspects during Duterte’s mayoralty in Davao City and presidency of the country.
Cayetano said most of the majority senators were with him while Dela Rosa was on the fifth floor. He said he and Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla would check on Dela Rosa.
Cayetano said Dela Rosa would not be arrested by the authorities to respect the Supreme Court decision requiring comments from respondent government officials and Dela Rosa himself, regarding his manifestation against the ICC arrest warrant. –NB, GMA News
