Full alert status raised amid Senate tensions —PNP
The Philippine National Police (PNP) raised the full alert status amid the tensions at the Senate premises on Wednesday evening.
The PNP said that security monitoring and police presence in the Senate vicinity were intensified “following a reported incident currently subject to verification.”
Gunshots rang out at the Senate on Wednesday evening amid an ongoing lockdown at the upper chamber, where Senator Ronald Dela Rosa is under protective custody.
Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. arrived at the Senate. Remulla said that his priority was the senator’s security and he was not there to arrest Dela Rosa, who is facing an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
“As part of standard security protocols and public safety measures, alert status was raised to FULL ALERT STATUS effective 8:30 PM, May 13, 2026. PNP personnel remain deployed in the area to maintain peace and order while assessment and coordination continue,” the PNP said in a statement.
On the other hand, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said that the military personnel seen inside the Senate building are Marine Security & Escort Group (MSEG) personnel.
“The soldiers seen inside the building were called by the OSAA to assist them in securing the facility,” the AFP said in a statement. —LDF, GMA News
