CBCP issues prayer for a 'nation at a difficult crossroads'
Filipino bishops have issued a prayer that would be recited in all parishes nationwide amid rising political tensions that they call on leaders to follow the ideals of integrity, humility, and to pursue the common good while citizens are to seek guidance as they defend the truth and pursue justice.
In part, the prayer states, "Our nation stands in a difficult crossroads. We see truth being cast aside, justice delayed, and division weakening the fiber of society."
"We pray for those entrusted with leadership. Call them back to the sacred duty of their office. May they serve with honesty, justice, and compassion. Grant them wisdom to act with discernment, strength to persevere with integrity, and humility to seek not revenge, but righteousness; not personal ambition, but the common good."
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) has issued “A Nation’s Prayer for Enlightenment, Conversion and Renewal” on Friday, May 22, 2026.
The prayer, which was approved during the CBCP Permanent Council meeting on May 20, 2026 and its translation in Tagalog, Bicolano, Binisaya, Ilocano and Ilonggo.
"The CBCP Permanent Council said the prayer will be recited beginning Pentecost Sunday and continuing at least through July, according to the CBCP General Secretariat," according to the CBCP News report. — BAP, GMA News
