The Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) not only teaches that strength comes from devotion to Allah but also from public service and unity for the common good, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation and Unity emphasized on Wednesday.

“In a world confronted by conflict, division, and hardship, Eid al-Adha is a powerful reminder of the enduring values of faith, sacrifice, compassion for others, and unity,” Presidential Adviser Mel Senen Sarmiento said in a statement as Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha.

“It teaches us that true strength does not only come from one’s devotion to Allah, but from a willingness to serve others and work together for the common good,” he added.

Sarmiento also hoped that the example of Prophet Ibrahim may inspire Muslims to become “instruments of peace, understanding, and solidarity” in their communities.

“While Filipinos may come from different faiths and walks of life, we are united by our shared values of empathy, generosity, and selflessness,” he said.

Eid al-Adha is the culmination of the Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca and is marked with festivities and sharing.

On this day, Muslims remember the sacrifice made by Prophet Ibrahim and offer their own sacrifice: Qurbani.

The OPAPRU is a government agency mandated to manage, direct, integrate, and supervise the implementation of the comprehensive peace process.

It also oversees the implementation of the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), which serves as the legal framework for the peace process in Mindanao. —VAL, GMA News
