Majority senators skip Senate session anew

Members of the majority bloc on Tuesday skipped the Senate session once again, according to Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Zubiri said Senate Secretary Jose Luis Montales informed the minority bloc that the majority would not attend the plenary session anew.

"Tumawag daw si Alan [Cayetano], di raw sila darating (Cayetano called and said they will not come)," he told reporters.

Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan confirmed that the Senate secretariat informed them of the majority senators' absence but did not provide any reason.

"Walang paliwanag basta hindi sila darating (They did not say any reason)," Pangilinan said.

On Monday, members of the majority bloc skipped the plenary session after the arrest of Senator Jinggoy Estrada, stalling the Senate proceedings, including the expected passage of the citizenship bills.

Pangilinan apologized to the members of the audience in the gallery. The minority senators headed to the lounge for a meeting.

Senator Erwin Tulfo earlier said the minority senators will wait for the majority to attend Tuesday's session, lamenting it would be a waste of taxpayers' money if they did not appear.

"Maghihintay at the same time magdarasal na pumasok sila dahil sayang ang sweldo (We'll wait and pray they will attend the session because it will be a waste)," Tulfo added. —AOL, GMA News
