Doctors raise concern over social media posts on kidneys sales for concert tickets
An organization of doctors and advocates of ethical organ donation and transplantation has voiced its concern over social media posts that seem to portray that kidneys are sold in exchange for concert tickets.
"While the post may have been intended as humor, organ trafficking and commercialization of human organs are serious issues that affect vulnerable individuals and undermine the dignity and value of human life," according to the statement posted by the Philippine Society of Nephrology Inc. (PSN).
"Such representations risk trivializing practices that are unethical, illegal, and contrary to the principles of ethical organ donation and transplantation."
Nephrologists are medical doctors that specialize in diagnosing and treating kidney diseases and conditions.
The group also reminds inviduals, organizations, and brands be sensitive and be cautious in creating public content that portray matters of health and human dignity.
"Organ donation is a selfless and life-saving act that should be portrayed with the respect and responsibility it deserves," the group said.
"We remain committed to promoting public awareness on ethical organ donation and protecting the dignity of every human life," it added. — BAP, GMA News
