No verified threats vs Senate, Independence Day events —NCRPO
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said it has not received any verified threats against Independence Day celebrations or the Senate.
NCRPO spokesperson Police Major Hazel Asilo said the police remain on full alert as part of a preventive security posture for the 128th Independence Day commemoration.
“Sa kasalukuyan, wala naman po tayong namo-monitor na direkta at verified na banta laban sa Senado,” she said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.
(Currently, we are not monitoring any direct and verified threats against the Senate.)
“Gayunpaman, patuloy po yung ating intelligence monitoring at security assessment upang agad po natin matukoy at matugunan po kung meron man po mga posibleng concerns,” she added.
(However, our intelligence monitoring and security assessment will continue so that we can immediately identify and address any possible concerns.)
Despite the absence of confirmed threats, the NCRPO has mobilized 8,405 police personnel, including around 2,000 additional officers from Police Regional Office 3 and Police Regional Office 4A.
The deployment is to secure multiple venues of Independence Day activities across Metro Manila, according to Asilo.
There are possible public gatherings and protest actions, particularly in Manila and Quezon City, but no groups have applied for permits for their protest actions.
Around 500 police officers have been positioned around the Senate.
The NCRPO clarified that the deployment is not based on any validated threat but is part of standard security preparations.
According to Asilo, coordination remains open with other law enforcement and intelligence agencies such as the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Police units have likewise conducted clearing operations in areas surrounding the Senate to prevent encampments and ensure order ahead of possible public assemblies. —VAL, GMA News
