Senate to resume in-person work on Monday, June 15, says Sherwin Gatchalian
Senator Sherwin Gatchalian confirmed that the Senate session will resume in-person work on Monday, June 15, 2026.
In a report by Sam Nielsen on Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday, Gatchalian said the Senate would remain under heightened security measures and continue enforcing its no-visitor policy.
On June 9, Gatchalian issued a memorandum implementing heightened security measures and preventive security protocols in response to alleged security threats relayed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
Gatchalian's office, however, did not specify the nature of Monday's convening, despite his declaration of the Senate's sine die adjournment following his election.
In a separate memorandum, Senator Alan Peter Cayetano also declared the Senate adjourned sine die.
Gatchalian and Cayetano remain locked in a leadership impasse, with the latter maintaining that only a majority of 13 senators is required to validate the election of the Senate president.
Given the June 3 adjournment, it remains unclear what specific proceeding is scheduled for June 15, which may involve an organizational meeting, a committee hearing, a consultation, an impeachment-related proceeding, or another special function distinct from a regular legislative session.—MCG, GMA News
