NBI, CICC sign agreement vs. online illegal activities

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) on Monday signed a memorandum agreement (MOA) against online illegal activities.

NBI Director Melvin Matibag and CICC Executive Director Renato Paraiso signed the MOA.

“Sa ilalim ng kasunduang ito, mag tutulungan po ang CICC at NBI sa pagsugpo ng illegal online activities sa pamamagitan ng pagbabahagi ng impormasyon, expertise, at resources bilang suporta sa mga operasyon at imbestigasyon at iba pang hakbang laban sa cybercrime,” Paraiso said.

(Under this agreement, the CICC and the NBI will work together to combat illegal online activities through the sharing of information, expertise, and resources in support of operations, investigations, and other measures against cybercrime.)

Aside from this, Paraiso said agency will also continue its advocacy on cybersecurity awareness and digital literacy.

Meanwhile, Matibag said the CICC will give the bureau access to information that it obtains. In turn, he said the NBI will deploy representatives and agents within the CICC to expedite action.

“Ano ang mga tutukan natin dito? Unang-una na ‘yung OSAEC natin na medyo marami na tayong nahuhuli… Financial scam, love scam. Mas magiging mabilis ang pagtugon ng pamahalaan,” he said.

(What will we focus on here? First and foremost is OSAEC [Republic Act 11930, or the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children], where we have already been making many arrests… Financial scams and love scams as well. The government’s response will become faster.) — BM, GMA News
