NBI Identifies Hackers Behind Major Government Website Breach Nationwide

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has identified the persons behind the hacking of several government websites, Director Melvin Matibag said Monday.

“We have identified the person involved, no, but we will act accordingly. So habulin namin ‘yan. We have to make them answer kung ano ‘yung ginawa nila because this will be illegal,” Matibag said in a press briefing.

(We have identified the person involved, but we will act accordingly. So we will go after that person. We have to make them answer for what they did because this will be illegal.)

“May identification kami na magkakaiba, but we have identified all of them already,” he added.

(We have different identifications, but we have already identified all of them.)

Last week, a group called Nullsec Philippines claimed responsibility for the defacement and warned that it was "watching" the Senate.

Meanwhile, the website of the House of Representatives was allegedly defaced by a collective of hackers who claimed responsibility for the security breach. The group accused the government of stealing public funds and opportunities, justice, and trust of Filipinos.

Meanwhile, Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) Executive Director Renato Paraiso assured that no sensitive information was taken following the hacking.

“Kung may nakuhang sensitive data, wala ho. Kasi ang talagang dineface po is ‘yung websites. You have to understand nakahiwalay ho ‘yung sistema ng mga pamahalaan, lalong-lalo na ‘yung NBI doon sa mga front-facing na websites nila,” he said.

“The problem with websites is it’s designed to be accessible so talagang marami talaga siyang vulnerabilities,” he added. –NB, GMA News
