Sandro Marcos: 'Level-headed' SP Sherwin Gatchalian is what Senate needs
House Majority Leader Sandro Marcos of Ilocos Norte on Wednesday congratulated Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, saying the Senate leader's level-headedness is what the upper chamber needs.
"On behalf of the House, I would like to congratulate Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian. We look forward to working with him. I have worked with him during my time as a congressman, and I know how... level-headed he can be," said Marcos, a son of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
"I think that's exactly what this current political climate needs, especially there in the Senate: Level-headedness and just the need for all of us to really get back to work," Marcos told reporters.
In a separate statement, Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III said Gatchalian’s election will enable both Houses of Congress to continually advance measures that promote economic growth, strengthen public services, and improve the lives of Filipinos.
“The House of Representatives congratulates Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on his formal election as Senate President. This development comes at an important time as both houses of Congress continue to carry out their constitutional responsibilities and act on issues that have a direct impact on the lives of Filipinos,” Dy said.
“The House remains committed to working with the Senate in advancing priority legislation, strengthening the economy, and delivering meaningful reforms that benefit our people. We look forward to maintaining a productive partnership with the Senate under the leadership of Senate President Gatchalian, guided by mutual respect and a shared commitment to serving the nation,” Dy added.
Gatchalian was formally elected as the new Senate president after his predecessor, Senator Alan Cayetano, conceded that he already lost the presidency after two of his allies jumped ship to the Gatchalian bloc. — VDV/RSJ, GMA News
