Religious, civil society groups call for march vs. corruption, political dynasties on June 28, 2026

Religious and civil society leaders on Friday called on Filipinos to join the “White Ribbon Movement” march on June 28, 2026 at the EDSA People Power Monument to push for electoral reforms and greater accountability in government.

The initiative, led by the Interreligious Leaders Council for National Transformation (IRCNT), seeks to mobilize public support against corruption and political dynasties while advocating reforms in the country’s political system.

During a press briefing, Kidapawan Bishop Colin Bagaforo urged the public to participate in what organizers described as a nationwide expression of concern over governance issues.

“If you have the capacity and if you are one with us, let’s have a simultaneous indignation protest rally,” Bagaforo said.

The planned gathering is set to take place at the EDSA People Power Monument and is expected to coincide with similar activities in other parts of the country.

Organizers said the White Ribbon Movement aims to unite various sectors, including faith-based organizations and civil society groups, in calling for transparent governance and meaningful political reforms.

Former senatorial candidate and Artikulo Onse convenor Luke Espiritu, who attended the briefing, said accountability should apply to all public officials regardless of political affiliation.

“Para magkaroon ng totoong transpormasyon ang ating bansa, dapat tayo ay lumagpas sa laro ng mga trapo at ng mga dinastiya,” Espiritu said.

(For our country to have a real transformation, we must go beyond the game of trapo [traditional politicians] and dynasties.)

He also stressed that both President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte should be held accountable for their actions as government leaders.

The movement’s organizers said the June 28 march is intended to serve as a peaceful demonstration calling for reforms in the country’s electoral and political systems.

Further details on the activities and participating groups are expected to be announced ahead of the event. — BAP, GMA News
