CBCP backs White Ribbon March vs corruption
The Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines on Monday expressed support for the “White Ribbon Movement March,” a protest against corruption set for June 28.
In a pastoral message, CBCP president and Lipa Archbishop Gilbert Garcera said various religious groups will gather at the EDSA People Power Monument for a faith-based and non-partisan call for truth, accountability, justice and righteousness in public life.
“On June 28, various religious groups will hold the White Ribbon March at the EDSA People Power Monument as a faith-based and non-partisan call for truth, accountability, justice, and righteousness in public life,” Garcera said.
“Those who, guided by their conscience and local circumstances, wish to participate in this peaceful gathering may do so prayerfully and respectfully,” he added.
The prelate also urged the faithful to attend the Eucharistic celebration on the same day, reminding them that the true source of strength is Jesus Christ.
Garcera challenged Filipinos to remain hopeful despite the challenges brought about by “corruption, injustice, and the erosion of public trust.”
“Let us continue to pray for the enlightenment of minds, the conversion of hearts, and the renewal of our nation,” he said.
The CBCP president also asked for the guidance and intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe, especially for the country’s leaders.
Several religious groups are expected to join the march at the People Power Monument along EDSA in Quezon City for the White Ribbon March.
Organizers estimate around 100,000 participants will attend the protest to pray and express their dismay over alleged corruption in the country.
The gathering will be attended by Catholics, Christians, Muslims and various civil society groups.
