Vatican grants pontifical coronation of Marian image in Rodriguez, Rizal

Pope Leo XIV has granted the image of Mary, Mother of Peace in Montalban (Rodriguez), Rizal a pontifical coronation, which recognizes its spiritual significance to the faithful.

In a social media post, Antipolo Bishop Ruperto Santos described the recognition as a “profound grace” for the Diocese of Antipolo and a blessing during the Jubilee Year.

“The Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, acting in the name and with the authority of His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, has officially granted our request for the Pontifical Coronation of the Venerable Image of Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan (Mary, Mother of Peace), venerated at the Parish of Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan in Barangay Kasiglahan, Montalban (Rodriguez), Rizal,” Santos said.

“Through this Pontifical Coronation, the Universal Church recognizes the deep devotion of the faithful to our Blessed Mother under the title Maria, Ina ng Kapayapaan and affirms her maternal presence among the People of God,” he added.

The Diocese of Antipolo made the request on April 30, 2026.

Santos explained that the recognition is not the diocese’s achievement, but a “gracious gift” from God.

“It is a reminder that the Blessed Virgin Mary continues to accompany her children, leading us always to her Son, Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace,” he said.

He also prayed for intercession from the Blessed Mary for peace in the country and the world. — JMA, GMA News
