Ombudsman to file plunder charges vs. Marcoleta despite EDSA rally
Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla on Wednesday said that his office will proceed with the filing of plunder charges against Senator Rodante Marcoleta amid the ongoing rally near the EDSA People Power Monument in Quezon City.
Earlier, Remulla said the Ombudsman will file plunder charges against the senator this week in connection with Marcoleta's undeclared campaign contributions worth around P75 million.
“Nothing has changed. We will file,” Remulla said in an ambush interview.
On Tuesday, some members of the Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC) travelled all the way from outside Metro Manila with their families to join the protest, calling for accountability from those involved in corruption.
One of the protesters said she was there in support of Marcoleta.
When asked about the EDSA rally, the Ombudsman said that though it was their freedom of expression, it was “the wrong premise.”
Remulla also said he has no message for the protesters.
“Basta ang sa akin lang, we will do our job,” he said.
(As far as I’m concerned, we will do our job.)
Remulla, meanwhile, reiterated that his office was not targeting Marcoleta.
"No such thing. It’s not selective justice,” he said.—NB, GMA News
