Some members of the prosecution team in Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment proceedings attended a Mass on Sunday at the Archdiocesan Shrine of Jesus, Pasay City, a day before the trial begins.

According to Christian Maño’s Super Radyo dzBB report, among those who attended were lawmakers Leila de Lima, Chel Diokno, Ysabel Zamora, and Joel Chua.

They were joined by House Deputy Speakers Janet Garin and Jay-Jay Suarez, Tingog Party-list Representative Jude Acidre, House Secretary General Cheloy Garafil, and private prosecutors Atty. Lorna Kapunan and Atty. Amando Ligutan.

The group said it attended the service to seek guidance ahead of the beginning of the impeachment trial and to pray for the wisdom of everyone who will participate in the trial.

Members said they hope for the truth to prevail, for justice to be administered fairly, and for the rule of law to be upheld.

Duterte's impeachment trial will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 6.

It will initially be held weekly from Monday to Wednesday at 2 p.m. before the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on July 27.

Proceedings will be adjusted to Tuesdays to Thursdays at 2 p.m. after the SONA.

The House of Representatives impeached Duterte in May over allegations of culpable violation of the Constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.

On June 1, Duterte’s camp filed its answer to the Articles of Impeachment and asked the impeachment court to dismiss the case.

Meanwhile, Pasay City authorities announced they will close a stretch of Diokno Boulevard near the Senate premises during the impeachment trial.

The temporary closure on Diokno Boulevard covers the northbound and southbound lanes from Seaside Boulevard to Atang dela Rama Street. Intersections along this segment will also be closed.

The traffic plan will take effect starting Monday, July 6, and will be enforced every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. —RF, GMA News
