Unauthorized disclosure of disbarment proceedings may lead to sanctions — SC

The Supreme Court (SC) on Thursday warned that unauthorized disclosure of disbarment proceedings may result in sanctions under the Code of Professional Responsibility and Accountability (CPRA).

“The Supreme Court reminds the public, especially members of the legal profession, that disciplinary proceedings against lawyers are confidential and must remain so until the Court issues its final order,” SC spokesperson Atty. Camille Ting said in a statement.

Section 1 of the CPRA states that disciplinary proceedings against lawyers shall be confidential in character and summary in nature.

“Accordingly, all concerned are reminded to strictly observe this rule,” Ting said.

"Unauthorized disclosure or dissemination of information regarding such proceedings may violate the CPRA and result in appropriate sanctions, including contempt of court." —Joahna Lei Casilao/VBL, GMA News
