DOH Secretary Ted Herbosa after knee replacement surgery

Health Secretary Teodoro "Ted" Herbosa has been on sick leave for a knee replacement surgery, said Health Undersecretary Albert Domingo.

Domingo, spokesperson of the Department of Health (DOH), confirmed on Saturday that Herbosa started his sick leave on Monday, July 6.

“The procedure went well, and he is now undergoing physical therapy and rehabilitation,” Domingo told GMA News in a Viber message.

In a Facebook post, Herbosa also shared a photo of him wearing a shirt with the text: “New knee, new me.”

While Herbosa is on leave, Domingo sits as officer-in-charge of the DOH.

“Designating the chief of staff as officer-in-charge is routine,” Domingo said. “It is neither a secret nor something controversial. This is the second or third time I've been OIC — it happens across all departments when the Secretary is temporarily unavailable, and ends upon his return.”

Domingo, however, did not disclose when Herbosa is expected to return to work. —KG, GMA News
