President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has yet to receive any request to open the sealed green box containing the tax records of Vice President Sara Duterte and her husband, lawyer Mans Carpio, the Palace said Monday.

“Wala pa pong naibibigay na ano mang request, sulat sa Pangulo,” Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Claire Castro said at a briefing when asked if Marcos will authorize such a request.

(No request or letter has been submitted to the President so far.)

“‘Pag dumating na po ang kanilang paghiling, ito po ay aaralin at tignan po natin kung ano ang magiging aksyon ng Pangulo patungkol po diyan,” she added.

(Once their request is received, it will be studied, and we will see what action the President will take on the matter.)

Over the weekend, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said the box should only be opened with the written authority of Marcos. Lacson serves as one of the senator-judges in the ongoing impeachment trial of Vice President Duterte.

Lacson made the remark after Senate impeachment court presiding officer Senator Francis Escudero ordered the so-called "BIR box" returned to the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), saying the court had not yet taken legal custody of the documents.

Castro said that all legitimate documents that may reveal the truth can be considered important.

Meanwhile, when asked whether Malacañang supports a speedy impeachment trial for the vice president, Castro reiterated that Marcos will not interfere with the process in the Senate.

“Nasa pamumuno na po yan ng Senado kung paano po nila ito mapapabilis,” she said.

(That is now under the leadership of the Senate as to how they can expedite the process.)
