Marcos meets US envoys ahead of ASEAN meetings in Manila
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. received United States Ambassador to India Sergio Gor and US Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Lipton in a courtesy call at Malacañang on Monday, ahead of ASEAN-related engagements in Manila.
Photos released by the Presidential Communications Office showed Marcos meeting with Gor and Lipton at the Palace.
According to the PCO, the meeting came as the Philippines and the United States commemorated milestones in their longstanding diplomatic relations and continued advancing shared priorities for regional peace, security, and prosperity.
The US Embassy in the Philippines said Gor is in the country as part of the US delegation participating in ASEAN-related meetings.
“Happy to welcome my dear friend Special Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor to the Philippines as he joins the U.S. delegation for #ASEAN-related engagements. Excited to show him the beauty of the Philippines and the strength of the U.S.-Philippines relationship,” US Ambassador Lee Lipton said in a social media post.
The courtesy call comes ahead of ASEAN foreign ministers’ meetings in Manila this week, which are expected to be attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other top diplomats from the region and partner countries. –NB, GMA News
