Senate impeachment court issues subpoenas for Sara Duterte financial records

The Senate impeachment court has started issuing subpoenas for the tax and bank records of Vice President Sara Duterte as trial proceedings are paused for President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos' Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) and related activities.

According to Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Alfred Corpus, among those who were already issued subpoenas are the Bureau of Internal Revenue, the Anti-Money Laundering Council, and several banks. They were given until July 30 to comply.

Senate impeachment court spokesperson Reginald Tongol said some institutions have already complied with the directive and submitted Duterte's bank checks.

While the court has granted the prosecution's request to issue subpoenas on Duterte's bank and tax documents, five senators have expressed dissent on the ruling, particularly the decision to include Duterte's records before she assumes the Vice Presidency.

There will be no trial on Monday, July 27 to pave way for Marcos's SONA. No trial will also be held on Tuesday, July 28 for the traditional Kontra-SONA (Counter-SONA) by the Senate minority.
