Sandiganbayan finds Janet Napoles guilty of graft, malversation

Janet Lim Napoles has been found guilty of graft and malversation of public funds by the Sandiganbayan in connection to ghost projects that used funds from the Department of Agrarian Reform.

The Sandiganbayan 6th Division sentenced Napoles to 12 to 15 years of imprisonment for each 10 count of graft and 17 to 20 years for each 10 count of malversation, according to a report from GMA News' Maki Pulido.

She was also directed to pay a fine of P5 million for each count.

Napoles attended the hearing through partial video conference from the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City.

Meanwhile, the Sandiganbayan also found Evelyn de Leon, Napoles’ former employee, guilty of three counts of graft and malversation.

She was sentenced to 14 to 19 years of imprisonment for each count.

The court, meanwhile, sentenced former DAR Undersecretary Gerry Pacturan to 14 to 19 years for 10 counts of malversation. He was also fined P5 million for each count.

He was acquitted over graft charges. —VAL, GMA News
