Sandiganbayan orders arrest of Jojo Ang, Arnulfo Go over flood control projects

The Sandiganbayan has issued a warrant of arrest against Uswag Ilonggo party-list Rep. James “Jojo” Ang in connection with the 14 graft cases filed against him over alleged involvement in a government contractor.

The anti-graft court’s Third Division issued the arrest warrant just two days after the Office of the Ombudsman indicted Ang on 14 counts of graft for allegedly having a stake in a construction firm that won P214 million in DPWH contracts, and was paid nearly P199 million for them, even while he is in public office.

The Constitution, among other laws, prevents public officials from having a private stake in government contracts.

“After a careful review of the resolution and its supporting documents, as well as the records, the court finds that probable cause exists in this case, pursuant to the Rules of Criminal Procedure. Accordingly, let a warrant of arrest be issued against accused James Ang, Jr.,” the Sandiganbayan said.

“Let a Hold Departure Order (HDO) be issued against the accused,” it added.

Graft is a bailable offense.

As such, Ang can secure temporary liberty if he is able to post a P30,000 bail per count of graft charge leveled against him.

Ang, in a statement, denied the allegations.

“My conscience is clear. I am confident that I will be able to clear my name soon. My resolve for truth to come out is stronger and clearer,” he said.

“In my three years in public service, I have never used my position in the government for my own interest and to profit in any way. I hold the trust of the Ilonggos strongly, and will never betray the faith of my kasimanwas in me as their representative in Uswag Ilonggo party-list since 2022,” he added.

Aside from Ang, the Ombudsman also charged former Sultan Kudarat 2nd District Rep. Arnulfo Go and three others with two counts of graft and two counts of malversation cases also in relation to the flood control mess last Saturday.

The Sandiganbayan also issued a warrant of arrest against Go on Monday, July 27. —AOL, GMA News
