Baligod, 18 ex-bodyguards to appeal DOJ recommendation to file raps

Lawyer Levito Baligod and the 18 individuals who claimed they delivered cash from former Ako Bicol Party-list Rep. Zaldy Co to various personalities will appeal the Department of Justice (DOJ) recommendation to file charges against them.

In a statement, Baligod said the DOJ erred in its finding to indict them for cyberlibel, saying there is no proof that any of them “posted on social media.”

“On the perjury case, the established truth is the evident credibility of the randomly selected 8 of the 18 former soldiers as stated in the Public Announcement of the Office of the Ombudsman,” he said.

On Monday, the DOJ confirmed that it recommended the filing of cyberlibel and perjury charges against Baligod and the 18 individuals.

This came after they alleged that they delivered suitcases of cash from Co.

The complaints against Baligod and the 18 individuals were filed by former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, former National Security Adviser Eduardo Año, House Deputy Minority Leader Leila de Lima, Fr. Flavie Villanueva, and Bureau of Corrections Director General Gregorio Catapang Jr. —AOL, GMA News
