Senate, House suspend work due to TD Maymay, habagat

Work is suspended in the Senate and House of Representatives on Thursday due to tropical depression (TD) Maymay and the southwest monsoon (Habagat).

In separate advisories, both chambers of Congress said the suspension is in line with Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 122 issued by the Office of President (OP) on Wednesday suspending work in government offices and classes at all levels in the National Capital Region (NCR) and several provinces due to the heavy rainfall brought by Maymay and the monsoon.

“In line with the directive, offices performing essential functions are expected to ensure the continued delivery of critical services,” House Secretary General and lawyer Cheloy Garafil said in a press statement.

“The House leadership remains steadfast in its commitment to safeguarding the health, safety, and well-being of all employees. All personnel are advised to take necessary precautions, stay safe, and prepare essential supplies during this period,” she said.

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian, likewise, suspended work at the Senate.

Maymay has weakened into a Tropical Depression on Thursday morning, but some areas are still under Signal No. 2.

In its 10 a.m. update, PAGASA said that as of 8 a.m., Maymay was located in the vicinity of Tayum, Abra. It was packing winds of 55 km per hour (kph) and gusts of 90 kph while moving southeast slowly. —VAL, GMA News
