Prompt, fair case resolution builds public trust — Chief Justice Gesmundo
Supreme Court Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo on Saturday stressed the importance of resolving cases fairly and promptly, saying the efficient administration of justice is crucial to maintaining public confidence in the judiciary.
In a “24 Oras Weekend” report on Saturday, Gesmundo said cases can have a significant impact on Filipinos’ quality of life, livelihoods, and human rights.
“Justice delayed is not merely an administrative difficulty. For this reason, efficiency is not simply a matter of procedure; it is a responsibility of justice itself,” Gesmundo said in a speech at the Manila Overseas Press Club Judiciary Night.
“The judiciary must continue to ensure that cases are resolved fairly, promptly, and through processes that are transparent, reliable, and worthy of public confidence,” he added.
Gesmundo also stressed the importance of judicial independence, saying it cannot be sustained if judges and court personnel face intimidation or threats.
He highlighted ongoing judicial reforms aimed at making courts more efficient, accessible, and responsive to the needs of the public.
Among these initiatives are the establishment of a Code of Conduct and Accountability for members of the judiciary and court employees, as well as the creation of the Office of the Regional Court Manager. — Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/MCG, GMA News
