19 dead due to Luis, Maymay, Habagat — OCD

Nineteen people were reported killed while 15 others were injured due to the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Tuesday.

As of 6 a.m. on Tuesday, the OCD reported 19 deaths in Benguet, Rizal, and Batangas.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities with 12. Nine died due to landslides in Baguio City, while two died in La Trinidad and one in Atok, also due to landslides.

Rizal reported four deaths. Two died due to landslides in Rodriguez, while one person died after being hit by a fallen tree in Antipolo and another drowned in Binangonan.

Three deaths were recorded in Batangas. One of the fatalities was due to drowning in Batangas City, one due to electrocution in Lipa, and one due to a landslide in Santa Teresita.

Four people remain missing, including three in Benguet and one in Batangas. Two people in Baguio and one in Atok were reported missing due to landslides.

The OCD also reported 15 injured persons.

The combined effects of the weather disturbances have affected 2,270,862 people or 646,676 families in the following regions:

• Ilocos Region
• Cagayan Valley
• Central Luzon
• Bicol
• Western Visayas
• Zamboanga Peninsula
• CALABARZON
• Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
• Metro Manila
• MIMAROPA.

A total of 919 evacuation centers have been opened, sheltering 94,997 people or 26,174 families.

The OCD recorded damage to 684 houses, of which 639 sustained partial damaged and 45 were destroyed.

Infrastructure damage reached P1,456,730,241, while agricultural losses were placed at P135,331,658.

The government has so far provided P73.52 million worth of assistance to affected communities.—AOL, GMA News
