Marcos to PH Army: Perform duties with discipline, restraint, compassion amid danger, uncertainty

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Tuesday urged the soldiers of the Philippine Army to carry out their duties with discipline, restraint, and compassion in times of danger and uncertainty.

“To the men and women of the Philippine Army, whether you are defending our territory, securing our communities, or responding to disasters, the nation continues to depend on your readiness and on your courage,” he said in his remarks at the 68th Philippine Army Change of Command ceremony.

“The Filipino people look to you in moments of danger and uncertainty. Carry out your mission with discipline, with restraint, and with compassion,” he added.

Marcos stressed the 110,000-strong Army’s continuing role not only in defending the country but also in responding to calamities.

He ordered the new Philippine Army Commanding General Lieutenant General Donald Gumiran to ensure that the force remains capable of quickly deploying and sustaining operations wherever needed.

Marcos directed the Army to remain prepared for search, rescue and relief operations as communities deal with heavy monsoon rains and other disasters.

“When disaster strikes, our people must know that the Army is there to help them,” he added.

He underscored the importance of taking care of military personnel and their families.

“Equipment can be modernized, tactics can be refined, but it is our people who carry the mission, who hold the line, and who give meaning to every gain we make as a force,” Marcos said.

He assured the soldiers that his administration would continue to invest in their capabilities and support initiatives aimed at protecting their welfare. —RF, GMA News
