OCD: Over 3.7 million people affected by Luis, Maymay, Habagat

More than 3.7 million people have been affected by the combined effects of Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Thursday.

As of 6 a.m. on Thursday, August 13, the OCD reported 3,733,883 affected individuals, or 1,087,246 families, across the following regions.

• Ilocos Region
• Cagayan Valley
• Central Luzon
• Bicol
• Western Visayas
• Zamboanga Peninsula
• CALABARZON
• Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR)
• Metro Manila
• MIMAROPA

A total of 53,570 people or 15,017 families were staying in 553 evacuation centers.

According to the OCD, there were 21 reported dead, 14 injured, and three missing.

Benguet recorded the highest number of fatalities with 15, including 10 in Baguio City, three in Atok, and two in La Trinidad—all due to landslides.

Rizal recorded three deaths, while Batangas also reported three fatalities.

On Wednesday, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said the reported death toll from the recent weather disturbances was 26.

The OCD also reported 1,339 damaged houses, 1,336 partially and 103 totally.

Infrastructure damage was estimated at P2,647,707,229, while agricultural losses reached P347,372,392

The government has so far provided P458.02 million worth of assistance to affected communities, according to the OCD. —AOL, GMA News
