DENR: 58 endemic, native wildlife animals released back into the wild

Fifty-eight endemic and native wildlife animals were released back into the wild in Quezon Protected Landscape in Atimonan, Quezon after undergoing rehabilitation, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) CALABARZON said.

Among those that were released back into their natural habitats are 30 reticulated pythons, six monitor lizards, seven Brahminy Kites, four Philippine Serpent Eagles, and three Philippine Hawk Eagles under the care of the DENR's Biodiversity Management Bureau.

Also back into their homes were five Brahminy Kites, two Philippine Serpent Eagles, and a Philippine Hawk Eagle from the DENR CALABARZON Regional Wildlife Rescue Center.

The DENR reminded the public that keeping or maintaining wildlife as pets is prohibited under Republic Act No. 9147 or the Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act, unless authorized by the proper permit. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA News
