NGCP: Yellow Alert over Visayas Grid lifted on Thursday, August 20, 2026
The National Grid Power Corporation (NGCP) has announced that the Yellow Alert for the Visayas Grid was lifted Thursday evening.
As of 9:35 p.m., the NGCP said the yellow alert has been lifted for the Visayas grid with available capacity of 2,640MW with peak demand at 2,350MW.
The Yellow Alert status was in place from 4 p.m. up to 8 p.m.with available Capacity of 2,613MW and peak demand of 2,504MW.
There were seven plants on forced outage on August 2026, one plant since July, three plants since June, seven plants since May, one plant since March.
There were also three plants on forced outage since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021, while 14 plants are running on derated capacities, for a total of 810.1MW unavailable to the grid.
The factor/s that contributed to the Yellow Alert declaration are:
- Unavailability of Visayas' large coal plants TVI 1 and TVI 2.
- Increase in forecasted demand
