7.4 million people affected by Habagat, Luis, Maymay —NDRRMC
The number of people affected by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and Tropical Cyclones Luis and Maymay has risen to 7.4 million, or 2.1 million families, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Saturday.
The updated number of affected population was recorded as of 6 a.m. from Regions I, II, III, V, VI, IX, CALABARZON, Cordillera Administrative Region, National Capital Region, and MIMAROPA.
The total number of casualties remains at 29 deaths, 19 injuries, and three missing persons.
Of the recorded fatalities, 15 were reported in Benguet; four in Rizal and Batangas; two in Caloocan; and one each in La Union, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, and Negros Occidental.
Due to the severe weather, 40,600 individuals or 11,900 families remain in evacuation centers.
Additionally, approximately 2,300 homes sustained damage—2,057 partially and 269 totally destroyed.
Infrastructure damage has reached roughly P4.7 billion, while agricultural losses stand at P1.7 billion.
NDRRMC said that P1.1 billion worth of aid has been provided to affected communities so far.
As of Saturday, the council reported that 89 areas have been placed under a state of calamity:
• Dagupan: 1
• Pangasinan: 4 (Santa Barbara, Mangaldan, Bugalio, Mangatarem)
• Benguet: 1 (La Trinidad)
• Bataan: 12 (province-wide)
• Bulacan: 24 (province-wide)
• Pampanga: 21 (province-wide)
• Zambales: 1 (Masinloc)
• Rizal: 1 (Rodriguez-Montalban)
• Cavite: 23 (province-wide)
• Batangas: 1 (Nasugbu)
