CHED approves 4 HEIs to offer Doctor of Medicine programs

The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) has approved four higher education institutions (HEIs) to offer Doctor of Medicine programs beginning Academic Year 2026–2027, expanding medical education opportunities in different parts of the country.

CHED said it granted Government Permits to Tarlac State University (TSU) and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) to offer the first and second years of their Doctor of Medicine programs.

Meanwhile, Cavite State University (CvSU) and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) were granted Certificates of Program Compliance for their Doctor of Medicine programs.

The approvals are part of the government’s efforts to expand medical education and increase the pool of doctors and other health professionals who can serve communities across the country, particularly areas with healthcare workforce needs.

CHED Chairperson Shirley Agrupis said expanding access to medical education must be accompanied by efforts to maintain the quality of training.

She stressed that future doctors must receive the necessary training and develop the competencies needed to respond to the country’s healthcare needs.

The four HEIs underwent CHED evaluation visits to verify their compliance with the commission’s minimum requirements for Doctor of Medicine programs under CHED Memorandum Order No. 18, series of 2016.

CHED said it would continue working with HEIs to expand opportunities for medical education while ensuring that their programs meet quality standards and contribute to the country’s need for well-trained healthcare professionals.— MCG, GMA News
