PH Serpent Eagle rescued after crow attack in Sarangani

A juvenile Philippine Serpent Eagle was rescued in Barangay Sapu Padidu in Malapatan, Sarangani after reportedly being attacked by crows on September 7, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said.

A resident found the distressed bird and immediately sought assistance from authorities.

The DENR Soccsksargen said its personnel conducted an initial assessment and documented the eagle, which measured 53.34 centimeters from snout to vent.

"The juvenile eagle exhibited no apparent injuries, was in good physical condition, and was assessed to be fit for release into its natural habitat, subject to DENR protocols and site assessment," the DENR Soccsksargen said.

The DENR then coordinated with the barangay local government unit (BLGU) to facilitate the bird's proper release.

The agency reminded the public to report sightings of injured, distressed or displaced wildlife to authorities.

The Philippine Serpent Eagle is endemic to the Philippines and is commonly found in forests. It mainly feeds on snakes and lizards.— MCG, GMA News
