Cotabato City strafing incident, injury from explosive device investigated
COTABATO CITY — Cotabato City police are conducting a thorough investigation following a shooting incident near a mosque in Rosary Heights 10, located behind the City Hall around 5 p.m. on Sunday.
According to Bangsamoro Police Public Information Officer Police Captain Steffi Salanguit, a black Toyota Grandia passed by the area and stopped in front of a group of individuals identified as supporters of the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP). Shortly after, gunfire was discharged from the vehicle.
"As of now, wala naman pong reported na tinamaan or nasugatan," Salanguit stated, confirming that no injuries or casualties have been recorded from the scene.
Authorities are currently working to verify crucial details surrounding the event. Investigators are currently determining the specific caliber of the firearm used in the attack, identifying the driver and any other suspects involved, and establishing the primary motive behind the shooting.
In a separate incident, a man is currently fighting for his life after being severely injured in an explosion tonight in the area of Amirul School, Barangay Kapimpilan, Mother Kalanganan, also in Cotabato City.
According to initial reports, the victim is believed to have been injured by an explosive device that he was allegedly carrying himself. In a brief interview, he said he is a resident of Poblacion 1.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the full details of the incident while the wounded victim receives emergency medical treatment.
