LOOK: Sectoral groups rally in Bulacan, decry corruption amid persistent flooding

Various groups in Calumpit, Bulacan took to the streets on Sunday to rally against corruption amid the flooding that continues to inundate several parts of the province.

In photos via stringer Rommel Ramos, the groups mobilized along MacArthur Highway, carrying placards and paraphernalia bearing their messages.

Among the placards were messages reading, “Flood control, hindi fund control,” “Ibalik ang perang ninakaw,” and “Taxes not for thieves.”

During the protest, the groups burned an effigy they brought with them. The effigy depicted a crocodile wearing a barong and carrying briefcases bulging with money.

One photo captured a group performing a theatrical act, covered in mud, seemingly mirroring the devastating aftermath of the floods.

The protest continued into the evening, culminating in a solemn candle-lighting ceremony.

During the height of the flood control issue last year, several officials from the Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office, which covers Calumpit, were found to be allegedly involved.

Among the individuals currently being investigated and facing sanctions is former District Engineer Henry Alcantara, who previously admitted to having ghost flood control projects under his jurisdiction. — BAP, GMA News
