NGCP: Visayas grid under yellow alert on Oct. 15, 2026
The Visayas power grid will be placed on yellow alert Thursday afternoon to evening due to the unavailability of several power plants, while others are running at derated capacity.
In an advisory, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) said a yellow alert is hoisted over the island cluster from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid’s contingency requirement.
The Visayas grid is operating at 2,557 megawatts (MW) against a peak demand of 2,479 MW.
The grid operator cited the following factors that contributed to the yellow alert declaration:
- Unavailability of Visayas' large coal plants PEDC 3 and KSPC 1
- Limited power import from the Mindanao grid due to the unplanned outage of FDC 3 and planned outages of GNPK 4 and TSI 2
The NGCP said six plants are on forced outage in October, five plants since September, three plants since August, one plant since June, four plants since May, three plants since 2025, two plants since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021, while 17 plants are running on derated capacities,
The plants on outage and derated capacities resulted in a total of 645.6 MW of capacity unavailable to the Visayas grid. —AOL, GMA News
