Upon the arrival of the police at the scene, they found the victim lying on his back on the road, reportedly with a gunshot wound to the forehead.
According to the initial police investigation — based on the statement of the victim's live-in partner — the suspect, known by the alias "Vince," an adult resident of Barangay Tuyokon in the Municipality of Aloguinsan, allegedly harbored a grudge against the victim after the victim's motorcycle nearly struck the suspect's mother.
This is allegedly the reason why the suspect retaliated against the victim.

The victim reportedly managed to run away from the suspect, but was pursued and was shot again—this time in the forehead—which resulted in his death.
