The National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) filed administrative charges against a cop who was caught on video abusing his partner, who happened to be a teacher.

In a "24 Oras" report from Jun Veneracion on Tuesday, security footage showed the cop dragging her across the floor and kicking her.

The incident happened in the victim’s (alias “Maan”) own business in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental last April. However, the abuse dates back as early as 2022.

“Nakakabaliw ng utak, nakakasira ng ulo, nakakawala ng dignidad. Hindi po madali hindi po madali masabak sa mundo ng mga battered women,” Maan said in a press briefing.

(It drives the mind crazy, it strips you of dignity. It is not easy being in the world of battered women.)

Maan said that the love, care and dignity that she gave him was returned with bruises and body aches by her live-in partner.

She has since filed a case against the cop at the NAPOLCOM.

“Para akong nangongoleksyon ng pasa. Hindi po ako nakatikim ng palo ng parents ko pero nakatikim ako ng bugbog sa taong akala ko magiging safe ako,” Maan said.

(It was like I was collecting bruises. I was never hit by my parents but I was beaten by the person whom I thought I was safe with.)

NAPOLCOM Vice Chair and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan condemned the incident.

“We have no tolerance to violence against women…I’m sure to dismiss this guy,” he said.

The charges include grave misconduct and conduct unbecoming a police officer.

When the cop was made to face the media, he hid his face and apologized, with Calinisan needing to prompt him repeatedly to speak.

“Sorry po, sir…sa mga nagawa ko sir…Yung mga...yung mga physical ano sir…nasaktan ko sir,” the cop said. (Sorry sir… for that I did sir… the… the physical sir… for hurting sir.)

The cop was also made to apologize to his victim, telling fellow police officers not to be like him.

The NAPOLCOM has urged other victims to come forward if their police officer partners were being abusive. — Jean Mangaluz/BAP, GMA News
