Visayas grid on red, yellow alerts on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2026 —NGCP
The Visayas grid will be placed on red and yellow alert status on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, due to the unavailability of power plants, according to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).
In an advisory, the red alert will be in effect from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m., while the yellow alert will be in effect from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
A red alert status is issued when power supply is insufficient to meet consumer demand and the transmission grid’s regulating requirement.
On the other hand, a yellow alert is issued when the operating margin is insufficient to meet the transmission grid's contingency requirement.
The NGCP said the Visayas grid has an available capacity of 2,362 MW against a peak demand of 2,548 MW, as 804.3 MW remain unavailable to the grid.
The following were cited as factors that contributed to the red and yellow alerts in the Visayas grid:
- Unavailability of Visayas’ large coal plants TVI 1, TVI 2, and KSPC 1.
- Limited power imports from Mindanao due to the planned outages of GNPK 4 and TSI 2.
The grid operator said 10 plants are on forced outage in October, two plants since September, two plants since August, one plant since June, three plants since May, three plants since 2025, one plant since 2024, two plants since 2023, and one plant since 2021, while 18 plants are running at derated capacity. —AOL, GMA News
