Arroyo to inspect 107-hectare housing project in Laguna

MANILA, Philippines - President Arroyo will inspect Tuesday a 107-hectare housing project in Calauan town in Laguna for the relocated informal settlers and slum-dwellers from Metro Manila. A Malacañang statement said President Arroyo is scheduled to arrive at 2:30 p.m. at the National Housing Authority (NHA) in Dayap and Sto. Tomas villages. Expected to welcome her are Calauan Mayor George Berris, members of the Sangguniang Bayan, Laguna Bishop Leo Droma, Calamba parish priest Fr. Rene Iriga, NHA General Manager Federico Laxa, Undersecretary for Religious Affairs Nena Valdez, Dayap barangay Chairman Roberto Ranilo and Sto. Tomas barangay Chairman Apolinario Catapang. Laxa and a Caritas Manila representative will brief President Arroyo on the status of the NHA housing projects. The President may opt to drop by at the medical and dental mission of the PAGCOR Serbisyo Muna caravan and government intervention programs and social services action desks under the auspices of the NHA, TESDA, DOLE, DSWD, TRC, LWUA, DepEd and the local government units (LGUs). The NHA-Calauan housing project is a government relocation project for informal settlers and slum-dwellers living along creeks and riverbanks of flood-prone areas in Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela (Camanava), Calauan, nearby towns and other places in Metro Manila. The total area of the three housing projects is 107.223 hectares. Sites 1 and 2 are situated in Barangay Dayap while site 3 is in Barangay Sto. Tomas. Site 1, which has a total land area of 58.86 hectares, has 1,013 housing units, 500 of which are already occupied. Site 2 is divided into 961 lots at 40 sq. m. per lot; Site 3 has 3,896 lots at 40 sq. m. per lot. - GMANews.TV
